Episode 19 – Acton vs. Fitz

In this episode, I discuss the 1891 wrestling match between Joe Acton and future heavyweight boxing champion Bob Fitzsimmons.

Update

I decided to take on a shorter book project on a 19th-Century wrestler to be completed in late summer or early fall 2023.

The next project after this book will be a longer book on a wrestler, who wrestled several legitimate contests in the 1920s.

Main Content

In 1891, the mostly retired former American Heavyweight Wrestling Champion Joe Acton wrestled future World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Bob Fitzsimmons in San Francisco, California. The match was not a mixed styles bout but a catch-as-catch-can wrestling contest.

Review

Sticking with the theme of professional wrestling’s checkered reputation, I review Dangerous Breed, the Peacock original documentary on Tedy Hart. Peacock is currently streaming this three episode sereis. The documentary details how aspiring wrestlers come to Hart for instruction and how it ends for many of the hopefuls.
