Main Content

St. Louis finally approved a cable provider in 1986. We finally had access to the national wrestling shows including WWF’s Prime Time Wrestling. Neither my cousin Dan nor I were fans of WWF until we started watching this show. Sel episood, we review the first episode available on Peacock, Aprill 28, 1986. We started watching the show about this time.

Nikolai Volkoff vs. Tony Garea

When I first saw this match, I probably rolled my eyes. Now I think it was a good match. Dan and I rarely saw Volkoff win a singles match at this point.

Jake “the SnakeRoberts vs. Scott McGhee

We forgot to review this match. Roberts beats McGhee easily to further build his image. The snake did not scare McGhee as much as it did other wrestlers.

King Tonga vs. Paul Christy

Paul Christy moved well for a 47-year-old. Christy helped get a young King Tonga over in this match.

Renee Goulet vs. “LeapingLanny Poffo

As much as I liked his brother Randy Savage, I never got Lanny Poffo. I found it to be a terrible match that went over two segments.

Classic Match with Professor Toru Tanaka and Mr. FujiDominating win by Professor Tanaka and Mr. Fuji.

Sivi Afi vs. “IronMike Sharpe

I would not have watched this match in 1986 but I thought both wrestlers looked good in the match. The wrestlers and referee botched the end as the count out was telegraphed before it happened.

Iron Sheik vs. Corporal Kirchner

Corporal Kirchner never successfully replaced Sgt. Slaughter after Sgt. Slaughter left the WWF. Iron Sheik was in his mid-40s but looked great. The match was much better than it should have been.

Next Episode

We will release the next episode on Monday, August 14, 2023. In that episode, we will discuss Jack Pfeffer exposing the worked nature of professional wrestling in a December 1933 article for the New York Daily Mirror.
