Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1939)

Avantura Sherlocka Holmesa (1939) je drugi i posljednji od dva Sherlocku Holmesu filmova od strane dvadesetog Century Fox u 1939. Basil Rathbone glumi Sherlocka Holmesa i Nigel Bruce igra Dr. Watson. Film je postavljen u 1894 i Holmes jednom je jednom slijedila Profesor Moriarty, igrao George Zucco.

Moriarty tells Holmes after once again escaping conviction that he is going to commit one more crime right under his nose and then retire. Moriarty intends to distract Holmes with one crime that is a mask for another more sinister one.

Ida Lupino plays Ann Brandon, a socialite, who is either in danger or an accomplice of Moriarty. Prema Internet Movie Databaseu, Lupino herself was born February 4, 1918 to actors Stanley Lupino and Connie Emerald. She accompanied her mother to the United States in the 1930s and began to land bit roles.

Her best film was probably High Sierra (1941) with Humphrey Bogart. Gđa. Lupino made a number of movies in the 1940s and 1950s before switching to television. She died on August 3, 1995 of a stroke while battling cancer.

Ovaj film traje oko 81 minutes and is not a “B” film. Međutim, when Universal picked up the series in 1942 and inexplicably set it in the 1940s, it became “B” movie fare.
