עפּיזאָד 10 – יוחנן “דער טיגערמאן” זאַמד
פּאָדקאַסט: שפּיל אין נייַ פֿענצטער | אראפקאפיע
אין דעם עפּיזאָד, we will be talking about John “The Nebraska Tigerman” Pesek.
דערהייַנטיקן
I have completed the first draft of the history of the American Heavyweight Wrestling Championship. איך דערוואַרטן ריליסינג די פאַרטיק בוך אין די סוף פון אקטאבער אָדער אָנהייב פון נאוועמבער 2022.
We also briefly discuss the situation in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) with the suspension of their top star and three Executive Vice Presidents. The situation is fascinating from a management perspective.
הויפּט אינהאַלט
We begin the main topic by paraphrasing a section of Lou Thesz’s Autobiography, Hooker, about John “דער טיגערמאן” אָדער “די נעבראסקא טיגערמאן” זאַמד. און “סטראַנגלער” Lewis’s recollection of Pesek is the basis for Thesz’s description. Lewis mentored Thesz.
I have a tough time squaring this account of Pesek with his action in legitimate contests (shoots) that Pesek wrestled in the early 1920s. Pesek wrestled the trust buster מאַרין פּלעסטינאַ אין נאוועמבער 1921.
Pesek wrestled an even more dangerous contest with NCAA Wrestling Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist Nat Pendleton in 1923. Jack Curley was feuding with “The Gold Dust Trio.” Curley backed Pendleton for a matchup with World Champion Ed “סטראַנגלער” Lewis but Billy Sandow sent Pesek to wrestle Pendleton instead. Gamblers favored Pendleton in the matchup.
John Pesek was born in Ravenna, Nebraska on February 21, 1894. Pesek wrestled sporadically after 1930 because he made a fortune racing greyhound dogs.
Wrestling Review
Caleb and I review Wrestlemania 17 with a particular focus on the “Stone Cold” Steve Austin versus “The Rock Match”.
