Damian Harmony and Ed Blaylock recently invited me on the Geek History of Time Podcast. I thoroughly enjoyed the interview. I recommend their podcast to anyone interested in professional wrestling, historia, popular culture, and interesting conversation.

Główna zawartość

Wayne’a “Big” Munn was the first of four Munn brothers to play football for the University of Nebraska. Wayne’a, Wade, Monte, and Glen Munn all lettered for the University of Nebraska football team.

Billy Sandow recruited Wayne Munn into professional wrestling during 1923. Born on February 18, 1896, the 28-year-old Munn made his debut in February 1924.

On January 8, 1925, Munn defeated Ed “Dusiciel” Lewis in a worked match in Kansas City, Missouri in front of 10,000 fans.

Munn was a performer but did not have any legitimate wrestling skill. A legitimate wrestler could double-cross Munn which happened on April 15, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pensylwania. Stanislaus Zbyszko pinned Munn in two straight falls to take the championship.

Munn continued wrestling part-time for three more years until retiring completely in 1928. Munn was sick at the end of his career with Bright’s Disease. W 1930, Munn felt worse and moved to his father-in-law’s hometown of San Antonio, Texas for treatment.

On New Year’s Eve 1930, Munn’s doctors told Wayne Munn his condition had turned grave. Munn stayed in the hospital for ten days before dying on January 9, 1931. Munn was only 34 lat.

Przez lata, I did not know Glen Munn, who was ten years younger than Wayne, also wrestled professionally. Munn broke into professional wrestling in 1932, the year after his brother’s death. Glen Munn wrestled for three years before retiring in 1935.

Munn’s wrestling career was so brief that his family did not mention it after Glen Munn passed away on February 13, 1988 w 81 lat. Glen Munn served as personnel manager for J.R. Simplot Co. until his retirement.

Both Munn brothers wrestled briefly but were some of the earliest brothers in professional wrestling. Wayne Munn made a big impact during his brief career.

Recenzja

I review the 1992 Royal Rumble which Ric Flair won. This match is available on YouTube. I discuss how both Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff missed the mark with their booking of a potential Ric Flair versus Hulk Hogan match.
