Sherlock Holmes’ Största Case (1932)

I second surviving Sherlock Holmes film (affiliate länk) starring Arthur Wontner as Sherlock Holmes, två brottslingar har rymt fängelse. Twenty years later, Jonathan Smalls and a confederate escape prison. Smalls seeks out Sholto, who has a heart attack and dies. Emellertid, Smalls still wants the treasure. Before Major Sholto dies, Sholto directs his sons to give some of their money to Mary Morstan, the daughter of the warden he killed during the treasure fight. When Mary Morstan realizes that strange men are hanging around her floral shop, she asks Sherlock Holmes for help in finding out why.

The Sign of Four: Sherlock Holmes’ Största Case (1932) is actually the third Sherlock Holmes film starring Arthur Wontner. The Case of the Missing Rembrandt (1932) is considered a lost film. Arthur Wontner’s interpretation of Sherlock Holmes was closest to the character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The Sign of Four was released on August 14, 1932.

Graham Soutten plays the one-legged criminal Jonathan Smalls. Soutten, who did have only one leg, added an interesting flourish to his character. He kicks his confederate with his wooden leg to put him back in his place. Smalls’ disability did not impede him. His dexterity with his wooden limb made him even more formidable.

Graham Soutten was born on August 7, 1891 i London, England. I could not confirm whether Graham Soutten was born with one leg or if it was the result of an accident or a World War I injury. Soutten made a few films. He died in London in 1969 vid 77 år.

The Sign of Four runs approximately 72 minuter. It was a feature film originally released in England.
