Tips As You Age In The Martial Arts

მწვანე ლერწმის ტექნიკა

When I started martial arts in my mid-twenties, I thought my skill level would always continue to improve even as I aged. Since I regularly lifted weights, performed cardio and stretched, I thought I could battle Father Time to a draw. Like so many combat athletes before me, I discovered Father Time beats us all. გვინდა თუ არა პირისპირ

Why I Studied the Martial Arts I Have

me-არღვევს 1996

We included four or more martial arts in our academy’s curriculum. When I look at these arts, I see a distinct reason that I studied each one. These arts cover striking, grappling, ground fighting and a practical self-defense weapon, the cane. I started studying Shotokan karate in the Fall of 1994. I switched to Taekwondo with my nephew in the Spring of 1995. Taekwondo brought

Passing the Torch

This week my oldest son Kenneth turns 19 წლის. Besides finishing school, Kenneth’s biggest focus is the martial arts. He is particularly passionate about teaching self-defense. წლების განმავლობაში, I have trained 14 nieces and nephews plus all three of my children in the martial arts. გასულ კვირას, the first member of the third generation started with us. Olympics Effect on Judo and Taekwondo

ZIMMERMAN-აკადემია-logo

My daughter asked me the other day if I had seen any of the Olympic Judo. She was surprised when I told her I had not. Besides being a black belt in Taekwondo, I’m a brown belt in Judo. Like both my sons, Caity trained in both TKD and Judo as well. However, მე არ მომწონს ის პოლიტიკური მოსაზრებები, რომლებიც იქმნება

Being a Dad and Coach

caitys-medals

მაისი 7, 2016, my daughter Caity returned to Taekwondo competition for the first time in eight years. As her dad but also her coach, I tried to dissuade her from sparring until we had a few more months but she was adamant about sparring at the tournament. Caity likes forms but she always preferred sparring. Reluctantly, დავთანხმდი. I

Things Come Full Circle

რამდენიმე კვირის წინ, my second foray into the martial arts came full circle. My daughter started studying Taekwondo again after more than five years away from the sport. It is actually Caity, who brought me back to martial arts in the summer of 2000. After my natural father passed away in July 1999, I went on a year-long fitness

Perfect Practice Makes Perfect

ZIMMERMAN-აკადემია-logo

გასულ კვირას, it was testing preparation at Willow Martial Arts. We went through the walking drills, forms and self-defense required for Taekwondo testing. As I observed the students preparing, I remembered a statement Master Pat Weseman often told me when I was a colored belt preparing for my next Taekwondo test. “Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.”
