The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939)
This film (nasc affiliate) was the first Sherlock Holmes film starring Basil Rathbone as Holmes. Sidney Lanfield directed The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939) do Fichiú hAois Fox-. Nigel Bruce comh-réaltaí mar an Dr. John Watson. Bheadh Rathbone agus Bruce imirt Holmes agus Watson i dtrí cinn déag scannáin ina dhiaidh sin, ceann amháin níos mó le haghaidh Fichiú hAois Fox-agus dhá cheann déag d'Pictiúir Uilíoch.
This film is a pretty accurate retelling of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story. It has good performances by recognizable stars such as Wendy Barrie, Lionel Atwill and John Carradine.
Nigel Bruce plays Watson as a bumbling character, which is one of the reasons I like but don’t love the series. Dar leis an Internet Movie Database, Bruce was typecast early on as a the bumbling English aristocrat. Bruce worked for a stockbroker before serving in World War I. He was injured and wheel chair bound but made a full recovery. For years, he was part of the cricket club that also included Boris Karloff that introduced the sport to Hollywood.
The movie is set in Victorian England and runs about 1 hour twenty minutes. This film and An Eachtraíochta Sherlock Holmes (1939) were probably the best two Sherlock Holmes films, where Rathbone played Holmes and Bruce played Watson.
