The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939)
Fim sa (lyen afilye) was the first Sherlock Holmes film starring Basil Rathbone as Holmes. Sidney Lanfield directed The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939) pou ventyèm syèk la Fox. Nigel Bruce ko-zetwal kòm Dr. John Watson. Rathbone ak Bruce ta jwe Holmes ak Watson nan trèz fim ki vin apre, yon sèl plis pou ventyèm syèk la Fox ak douz pou Inivèsèl Foto.
This film is a pretty accurate retelling of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story. It has good performances by recognizable stars such as Wendy Barrie, Lionel Atwill and John Carradine.
Nigel Bruce plays Watson as a bumbling character, which is one of the reasons I like but don’t love the series. Dapre baz done a fim entènèt, Bruce was typecast early on as a the bumbling English aristocrat. Bruce worked for a stockbroker before serving in World War I. He was injured and wheel chair bound but made a full recovery. Pou ane, he was part of the cricket club that also included Boris Karloff that introduced the sport to Hollywood.
The movie is set in Victorian England and runs about 1 hour twenty minutes. This film and Avanti nan nan Sherlock Holmes (1939) were probably the best two Sherlock Holmes films, where Rathbone played Holmes and Bruce played Watson.
