Episode 41 – Why Mort Henderson?

In this episode, we discuss a new discover about Ed “Strangler” Lewis, why Mort Henderson was picked to be the Masked Marvel, and a look at Jerry Lawler vs. “Dirty” Dutch Mantel.

Update

After recapping Stanislaus Zybszko double-crossing the Gold Dust Trio, I reveal that Ed “Strangler” Lewis wrestled Stanislaus Zbyszko for the first time in March 1914. Zbyszko wrestled Lewis in Lexington, Kentucky before Zbyszko returned to Poland to fight in World War I.

Main Content

We discuss why Sam Rachmann had to employ Mort Henderson to play the Masked Marvel during the 1915 Wrestling Tournament. Ideally, Rachmann would have booked a wrestler from the Midwestern United States. Circumstances forced Rachmann to book a wrestler based in the Northeastern United States.

Review

We discuss Jerry Lawler vs. Dutch Mantell in a Memphis studio wrestling match.
