Eran Trece (1931)

Eran Trece (1931) is the Spanish language version of Charlie Chan Carries On. Charlie Chan Carries On has not survived or at least has not been found yet, so this film (affliliate link) gives us our only look at the lost film. While it was based on the same story, the film had a completely different cast.

Manuel Arbo as Charlie Chan in Eran Trece (1931)

Charlie Chan does not actually appear in the film until 40 minutes into the 79 minute movie. A traveler is murdered in London. Chan’s friend Inspector Duff investigates the crime and decides to accompany the tourist on their cruise. They eventually stop in Honolulu, where Duff is reunited with Chan. When he is shot in Inspector Chan’s office, Mr. Chan takes over the case.

Manuel Arbo plays Charlie Chan, Rafael Calvo portrays Inspector Duff, Ana Maria Custodio plays Elen Potter and Juan Torena plays Dick Kennaway. The film is well made and entertaining. Charlie Chan fans will enjoy the film for more than its novelty value.
